Box Seat ~ MPavillion Chair

In our workshop is a box, passed down from my grandfather, that will be passed onto unknown future generations. The box is wonderfully strong, it uses no glue and no nails, simply brilliant skill in making.
The box acts as a seat, a stool, a step ladder and a storage compartment.
This box is the design inspiration for our MPavillion 2023 chair submission: Box-Seat.

The Box-Seat is functional, strong and honest. It adheres to the fundamentals of woodworking with native Australian timber.

Made on Gunaikurnai Country with locally sources, reclaimed Australian Tasmanian Oak timber. Suitable for our harsh climate conditions, bolstered by a robust low VOC exterior marine grade clear coat.

Box-Seat will last for generations.

Box-Seat is more than a seat. It’s a communal seat, representing its locale.

It stacks, reconfigures and can be secured easily. It’s also light weight

It can neatly store a bag or jacket, off the ground. Great for travelling visitors or school kids.

Intentional edge rounds make an ergonomic fit. A footrest gives little legs a stable position.

We think the chair is seriously fun.
